Counselling with Care, Compassion and Understanding

A Safe Space for You

Hi, I’m Chanel, a registered counsellor with the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).
I offer a calm, supportive space where you can talk freely, make sense of your thoughts and feelings, and feel heard without judgement.

Much of our wellbeing is shaped by the relationships in our lives with partners, family, friends, colleagues, and ourselves. Sometimes those connections feel nurturing and steady; other times, they can leave us feeling uncertain, unseen, or overwhelmed. Together, we can explore what’s happening in your relationships and what it means for you, helping you find understanding, balance, and a way forward that feels right.

My approach is person-centred, which means our work moves at your pace and focuses on what matters most to you. I listen with care and curiosity, offering gentle reflections and perspectives when they feel helpful.

My Experience

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in corporate and academic settings, supporting professionals, students, and staff under pressure. These roles gave me insight into how stress, work demands, and life changes can affect our wellbeing and relationships.

As a therapist, I’ve worked with organisations including Mind, Southend Carers, and Open Access Counselling Services, supporting individuals through a wide range of challenges. I now work with Mind’s Dove Private Service, BetterHelp, and in private practice, helping clients build resilience, understand themselves, and improve their relationships with others and themselves.

How I Can Help

I work with individuals who want to explore and understand:

  • Personal relationships, communication, and boundaries

  • Life transitions, such as separation, divorce, redundancy, retirement, or aging

  • Low self-esteem, confidence, or a difficult relationship with yourself

  • Carer support and balancing your needs with those of others

  • Sex and porn addiction and their impact on connection and intimacy

  • Academic and university pressures

  • Support for trainee or newly qualified counsellors

Benefits of personal therapy for trainee counsellors

Personal therapy is a fundamental and compulsory component of any trainee counsellor course. I remember when I was a trainee, I found counselling training demanding both mentally and emotionally. I found the experience of personal therapy to be essential whilst training to be a counsellor. As well as experiencing the counselling relationship from the position of being a client, it also gave me the opportunity to work through my own issues, increased my personal development, increased my levels of self-awareness, and acceptance of self. In my opinion this contributed to me becoming a better counsellor.

Personal therapy during training can offer you a supportive space during your course to:

  • Explore any unresolved issues
  • Challenge concepts of self
  • Increase your self-awareness
  • Identify any blind spots you may have
  • Increase your personal development & growth
  • Explore how theory relates to you
  • Help you to recognise and separate your own personal issues from those of your clients when they arise in the therapeutic relationship
  • Gain new perspectives

I know it can be financially challenging when you are training to be a counsellor, the cost of the course, supervision, memberships, and CPD is expensive. I offer a concessionary rate of £45.00 to trainee and student counsellors. If you are interested, please get in touch.
